Santa Cruz Geeks

Following along with several of the other local meetups and get-togethers, we’re taking the month of August off. The weather is beautiful, so head outside and get some sun. Or, go to FreelanceCamp on August 15th!

We will gather again in September. Details to come.

We had some font rendering issues with Firefox 3.5. I’m happy to report that they are now gone. Happy browsing.

Happy New Year Geeks!

We’ve put together a WordPress MU/BuddyPress site for the community.  It is our hope that this acts as a gathering spot for the numerous geeky events and gatherings around town. The software is an early release — so please bear with us through the bumps and learning opportunities.

Here’s a list of the features of the site –>

• News – a central place to post geek news and make general announcements to the group.  If you are an RSS geek, feel free to add the RSS feed to your reader.
• Member Profiles – a searchable database of members with answers to geek trivia questions and contact points for folks.
• Groups – all members can create groups for anything.  I imagine some will have more use than others.  Micro social networking inside of a micro social network …
• Blogs – this option is available to everyone who wants to add a blog to the santacruzgeeks.com website.  Posts from these blogs will be fed to the front page as they are posted
• Wires – these are basically like facebook walls.  You can post messages here on your own profile, on other members and on groups.  The wire feeds will post to the front page
