Santa Cruz Business Connect was developed to assist your business in obtaining active positive business referrals that can expand your business and personal success. SCBC is a dedicated group of local business professionals and entrepreneurs that strive to expand your business. We believe that successful businesses build valuable and long lasting relationships within groups. We believe our services should always be high quality, the very best we can provide. In all our dealings we will be honest, truthful and strive to serve our members best interest. A member must have a reputation for, and practice, good business ethics. A member must exhibit a positive attitude, participate enthusiastically, use good business ethics, attend regularly scheduled meetings in appropriate business attire and use best efforts to provide business referrals for fellow SCBC members. Our Objective is to provide support to business professionals, to provide a meeting place to share ideas, skills, and information, and to network with one another. To provide our members with information concerning issues relevant to local business, to encourage active participation in the business community and to foster opportunities to gain professional knowledge; to build and grow your business; host informative speakers and provide a medium for support concerning business related issues. SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER – Teresa Thomae
Central Coast Small Business Development Center
Teresa has been the Director for the Central Coast Small Business Development Center at Cabrillo College since 1995. In that time, she has directed the counseling given to thousands of businesses, coordinated hundreds of workshops and served on many economic development committees in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. Over thirty million dollars of funding has been received by SBDC clients under her leadership. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and workshops. Teresa has been instrumental in the development of business management classes mono-lingual entrepreneurs, for childcare providers, for small farmers and home-based businesses.
Teresa currently serves on the Boards of Directors for the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce, El Pajaro Community Development Corporation, the Marina Technology Cluster and is the president of the Board of Directors of Your Future Is Our Business. Teresa has served as a volunteer for Cal Coastal’s Loan Committee for many years.
Teresa is a graduate of Leadership Santa Cruz County, Class X, and Focus Agriculture. She was recently awarded the ”Woman of the Year” by the Aptos Chamber of Commerce and was named a Community Hero for 2003 by the United Way. The SBDC was recently recognized by the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce as ”Organization of the Year.”
BUSINESS SHOWCASE SPEAKER
Todd Schafer – Schafer Design
Specializing in branding, Todd is a Certified Desktop Publisher, Graphic Designer and Web Designer who has an extensive background in business design and management. In 94’ he partnered with his wife to run a local Apparel company, Amp Wear Santa Cruz. There he created, managed, and designed the Brand Identity, Clothing, Advertising and Marketing.
After hard times in the clothing industry he worked as a Graphic Designer/Sign Maker at a local Trade Show Exhibit company. He then pursued a valuable opportunity as a designer for the Fox Racing Motocross Brand-Shift Division, where he reinvented Shift with a New Brand Identity. After tiring of the commute he moved to Hutton Sherer an Advertising, Marketing and Design firm in Santa Cruz, CA. assisting with various advertising projects. In 2004, with his passion for creating brand identities, he started Schafer Design, a Branding and Website Design company.
Over the last 15 years, he has designed a multitude of items from complete business identities, brochures, magazine and newspaper advertisements, full magazines, web sites, point of
purchase displays, posters, men’s and women’s apparel and much more. His brand identities have been published in the Big Book of Logos 5, a premier reference for top logo designs. He is most passionate about creating a company identity from concept, bringing in his artistic background and seeing the final results of creating the brand experience that will help his clients achieve their goals. His clients are small to medium businesses, non-profits and authors.
