At some point, a domain name becomes so popular that it is a ’brand’, and a ’brand’ must be ’protected’. But with the rise of social media, all kinds of ’impostors’ can create accounts on facebook, twitter, etc. claiming to speak for your brand.
Now, much of this may be welcome; it helps spread the word, etc. But every now and then, someone has another agenda, or wants to cybersquat (correct term?), confuse the marketplace or simply make a few bucks from your efforts.
I have this problem with 2 websites in China. So US law is irrelevant (I believe). And I have no budget or staff to ’police’ the brand, file complaints with ICANN or twitter or … (there are dozens) or even monitor the situation.
Any practical suggestions? Thoughts? Directions? Discussion?
How do YOU protect your hard work?
Many thanks.
